Doctors, Spas Looking to Professional Skin Care Brands for Support, According to Kline Survey
Posted Thursday, February 01, 2007 3:08:44 PM by Blog57 Team
The U.S. professional skin care market is riding a wave of robust growth, driven by a trend toward at-home treatments that promise the same results once available only through surgical procedures or high-end clinical products. The trend has not only boosted sales, it has also caused a shift in distribution, with physicians and spa professionals facing stiff competition from retail channels, including some chain drugstores and other mass merchandisers. This retail competition has both physicians and spas increasingly looking to product marketers for help in holding on to their share of this booming market, according to a recently published study by Kline & Company. "The vast majority of the physicians and spas we spoke with are very optimistic about the future of the professional skin care market, but they're also looking for more support from the brands," says Carrie Mellage, industry manager for the Consumer Products practice of Kline's Research division....

Dry Skin Care in Winter Months Means Staying Dry
Posted Thursday, November 09, 2006 1:49:45 PM by Blog57 Team
If you grew up in colder climes youll remember those winter days of coming home from ice-skating, tobogganing, skiing and snowball fights with chaffed, red hands and feet under your wet mittens and socks, your face red and damp with cold and snow and your lips chapped. Although you may not get quite as wet as an adult, it is still important to stay dry during the winter. Paradoxically, keeping your skin dry is one of the most basic dry skin care rules for winter. Hands and feet need special care all year round, but this is especially true in winter. Every time your skin is immersed in water whether from washing your hands, bathing and doing household cleaning or from wet hands under snow-covered gloves or perspiring feet under thick winter socks you are causing or exacerbating dry skin. During the cold months, this can easily turn into cracked, dry skin and eczema....

So, you dont have baby soft skin anymore but that doesnt mean you should despair. SYIDA LIZTA AMIRUL IHSAN writes about how to take care of oily skin. MY teacher Miss Tan once asked how much water one needs daily, and I shouted, with sheer confidence: Two gallons! It should have been two litres. My classmates broke out laughing. Miss Tan saved me from the embarrassment by saying: No wonder she has such beautiful skin. Yes, that was my best beauty moment. My skin was perfect when I was in my teens. I could get away with washing it with just soap and water. And then it happened. At 18, when I moved to Kuala Lumpur to go to university. Zit after zit dotted my face like I was having chicken pox. They came in twos or threes and before the old scars faded, a new batch appeared....

One is a self-made auto repair and towing millionaire; another, a special education teacher whose own learning disability went undiagnosed as a child; and the third a former teacher and longtime politician with her own line of skin care products. Now, their lives are intersecting: C.K. ''Mac'' McElyea, Terry Snipes and Eleanor Sobel all want to be the next Broward School Board member in District 1. Voters have already filled the seat once this year. Carole Andrews left office in September, a week after being elected, because of health problems. Gov. Jeb Bush appointed Albert Jones to temporarily fill the seat. Now, her three would-be successors are enmeshed in a condensed, six-week campaign. McElyea, who was a Dania Beach city commissioner from 1985 to 1993 and 1999 to 2006, wants to bring his extensive business experience to find ways to save the district money....
